Clang is a rehearsal space in Enfield North London.  Previously called Satellite Studios, they needed to come back from covid 19 with a new energy and a complete brand overhaul, taking on a new identity. It is home to a scene of alternative bands and the client had ambitions for it to be a cultural destination, with events and performances. He wanted it to be more than a rehearsal space. The first step was to create a new name. This task called for extensive research sessions to understand the offering and the story of the business, as-well as its history and direction. It was the foundational block from which the entire branding was built from. It was important for it to be linked to its location in addition to the musicians and scenes it serves.

After investigating the history of the area we settled on Clang. Not only is it an onomatopoeic verb of making noise, which suits the loud alternative music that is played there, but it is also a reference to the industrial history of the area.

The logo is simple but memorable, with the letters tracked tight giving the impression that they have been banged together. All the supportive information is presented in a functional lock-up that can be used in multiple contexts. Multiple assets were then designed, from signage to posters and website. All within a simple and flexible graphical system.

“Peter created something really special for me.
He totally understood the big picture of what I wanted the studio to be. Most importantly the brand really resonates with the bands who rehearse here.”
